Meet The Doctor

Dr. Avera spent 4 years in the United States Navy as a Photographer.  Following this he received a B.S. degree in Zoology from California State University at Long Beach.  Next he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from University of California at Los Angeles School of Dentistry.  After nine years in general practice he returned to UCLA and received his specialty training and certification to practice the specialty of Periodontics and a Masters in Oral Biology.  He was a part-time clinical instructor at UCLA School of Dentistry for 13 years. While there he taught Fixed Prosthetics, Periodontics and Advanced Treatment Planning.  Dr. Avera is a board certified periodontist and as such is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.  He is a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, Montery Bay Dental Society, American Academy of Periodontology, Calfiornia Society of Periodontology, Western Society of Periodontology and the Academy of Osseointegration.

He is a member of Synergy In Periodontal Concepts, a prestigious periodontal study group.  Dr. Avera is married to his high school sweetheart and they have 2 terrific grown children.  He lectures both locally and nationally on topics related to both Periodontics and Dental Implants.
